Morrow Manor wants to spread awareness about World Alzheimer’s Month and share some information with readers this September.

World Alzheimer’s Day is observed on September 21st this year, but it is our mission this month and every month to recognize special memory care needs!

This year we come together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this campaign, which in 2021 centers on diagnosis. According to Alzheimer’s Disease International, it “shine[s] a light on the warning signs of dementia, encouraging people to seek out information, advice and support, as well as contacting the Alzheimer’s or dementia association in their country.” Alzheimer’s is different from the umbrella term of dementia, so we’ll focus on this specific condition.

What are a couple of the warning signs of Alzheimer’s?

  1. Misplacing items and feeling lost in familiar places.

If you or a loved one loses things more than once in a while and are regularly unable to retrace steps or navigate familiar environments, this is a warning sign.

  1. Making illogical decisions.

Similarly, making illogical decisions is different from a lapse in judgment from time to time. Look for consistency in these signs of Alzheimer’s and progression of symptoms.

  1. Memory loss and confusion.

The most well-known sign of Alzheimer’s, memory loss and confusion can even prove dangerous for seniors who can get lost on their own.

Where can I go for resources?

  1. The Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association can provide great resources for you or your loved one. You’ll find events, education, and support groups at https://www.alz.org/centralohio
  2. Morrow Manor! Your loved one could benefit from our Pathways Memory Care program, which gives specific and individualized care to residents with special memory care needs and educates families, too.

Please join us in observing World Alzheimer’s Month and spreading awareness for this disease.
